Since November 2024 Team Science conducted the ROVER study, which seeks to evaluate the safety and immunogenicity of an mRNA vaccine booster for COVID-19 variants in participants aged 6 months to 5 years with at least two prior doses of an approved COVID-19 vaccine.
A total of 1806 children from Argentina, the United States, Colombia, Chile, the Dominican Republic and Panama participated in the study.
Our country had 44 volunteers, 28 of whom attended the centers of the Equipo Ciencia network. The volunteers received a dose of the vaccine under study and were followed up medically for six months.
In relation to the safety objectives, local and systemic adverse effects were analyzed after seven days and adverse events in the 28 days after application.
Following the coronavirus pandemic in 2020, the circulating virus underwent several mutations over time, leading the scientific community and pharmaceutical companies to develop improved vaccines capable of extending coverage against the new circulating strains.
In this case, a vaccine that includes new variants is being evaluated for safety, efficacy and duration of immunity in patients who have already received at least two previous doses of already approved vaccines.
